Ultrasound is used to image various arteries and veins in the body.
The carotid or neck artery can be imaged to diagnose blockages, which may lead to strokes.
The leg arteries can be scanned for blockages. Blockages here are referred to as Peripheral Artery Disease. Ultrasound of the leg veins helps diagnose the cause of varicose and spider veins.
Scanning the aorta in the stomach can check for aortic aneurysm, or weakness in the wall of this artery. Any breakage of this artery can lead to sudden death.
